About Schoenheitz Crémant d'Alsace Brut
The Alsatian dialect (in French, alsacien) is a variant of German spoken in the region of Alsace, in the east of France, near the border with Germany and Switzerland. However, Alsatian is not merely a dialect; it is a symbol of cultural identity for its inhabitants. It reflects the historical blend of German and French influences and is used in oral traditions, folk songs, and especially in the daily life of rural communities. Thus, when Henri Schoenheitz, a lover of the vineyards located in the Munster valley, embarked on the project to revive viticulture in the area, he named it after his surname Schoenheitz, a term that, although it does not have a direct literal meaning, in the Alsatian dialect, evokes concepts such as "beauty" and the "taste" for the "good things" of a place. His son Henri, in 1980, newly graduated in oenology and viticulture, is the one who, with a restored vineyard, ventures into the creation of his first wines, marked by a focus on sustainability and a deeply epicurean spirit.
Their sparkling wine, Schoenheitz Crémant d'Alsace Brut, originates from pinot blanc and pinot auxerrois vines situated on the slopes of Wihr-au-Val, at the entrance to the Munster valley. Vines planted on granite soil and at an altitude of 500 metres. With sustainable agriculture and profound respect for nature, the grapes are harvested at their optimal ripeness and, once in the winery, the selected, destemmed, and pressed grapes ferment with indigenous yeasts. Without malolactic fermentation to preserve the natural freshness of the fruit and all its aromatic finesse, the wine is bottled to undergo a second fermentation in the champenoise style and ages in the cellar for 24 months. Finally, the sparkling wine is disgorged with a minimal dose of liqueur to enhance its unique character.
Schoenheitz Crémant d'Alsace Brut is synonymous with quality, authenticity, and a commitment to preserving a unique terroir. A true toast to the "good things" that make the wine region of Alsace special.
