About Agaliu

Agaliu is an organic, single-variety Macabeo white wine produced by the L'Olivera cooperative, in the D.O. Costers del Segre, in Catalonia.

L'Olivera is a social integration cooperative that involves people with difficulties, either from socially disadvantaged groups or people with mental disabilities. They are all part of the cooperative and can become full members if they wish.

Social action is the driving force behind the identity of this interesting project where vineyards and olive groves are cultivated to produce high quality wines and oils that seek to represent a landscape and its people.

Agaliu is an ancient word that means “hope” and this is the name given to a delicate wine made with the Macabeo variety that is harvested by hand. The bunches are pressed whole. The must ferments under controlled temperatures in American and French oak barrels where they try not to have more than 15% new barrels. The resulting wine is aged for three to four months on its fine lees with a weekly battonage to create wines with volume on the palate and an elegant integration of the wood.

Agaliu is a sensible, fresh and smooth wine. A great little treasure made with hard work and enthusiasm, which is worth trying.
