About Akutain Cosecha

Not all wines seek to reinvent the wheel. Some simply make it roll with elegance… At Bodega Akutain, the classic style of Rioja is neither an empty label nor an excuse to remain in the past. It is the result of years of experience, of refining details, of knowing what works and why. What began as a family project is now led by Jon Peñagaricano, a winemaker by vocation and the founder's son, who has inherited not only the surname (hence the name Akutain) but also a way of understanding wine: without noise, without fireworks, with respect for the grape and for time.

Akutain Cosecha originates from the Fonzabala estate, planted in 1990. Tempranillo vines over 30 years old are vinified with precision but without excess. Firstly, it ferments in fibreglass and stainless steel tanks for 8 days, under controlled temperature, and then undergoes natural malolactic fermentation with indigenous bacteria.

Subsequently, it spends the entire winter and almost all spring in tank. Four rackings refine it before bottling. No fining, no filtering, no cold stabilization: here there is no makeup, only honesty.

The result is Akutain Cosecha, a direct, fine wine with clean fruit and the earthy touch that tells you “this is Rioja Alta” without the need for grandiose words. It is the label with which Akutain welcomes you to its world. The most accessible, yes, but also the one that sets the tone for everything that follows.
