Alión 2022 is a red wine that melds power and elegance with a surprising smoothness from the very first sip. About Alión

Alión is one of the most important and sought-after wines from the Ribera del Duero. It is a single-variety Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) made by the Alión winery, which is part of the outstanding Tempos Vega Sicilia winemaking group.

The Alión grapes grow just 15 kilometres from the Vega Sicilia vineyards, they come from plots with an average age of 30 years old and are harvested manually and collected in 12 kg boxes, then taken immediately to the winery to pass over the selection table. The must ferments in wooden tanks at a controlled temperature until the right amount of extraction has taken place to provide the characteristic colour and structure. The wine is aged in new French oak Bordeaux barrels for between 14 and 20 months, depending on the vintage.

These barrels are made by prestigious French coopers and are not used again by the winery after the wine has been bottled, where it rests for at least 15 months to round off.

The name Alión refers to the part of Leon where the father of the álvarez family was born. The family acquired Vega Sicilia in 1982, and vinified the first Alión crops. In 1993, the crop was given its own winery and was no longer known as the little brother of the renowned Vega Sicilia wines, becoming a modern wine that is very different the classic style of Ribera del Duero wines. This gave it its own reputation and today it is one of the best known and most sought-after wines across the world.

2019

Alión 2019 is a concentrated red wine with aromas of ripe black fruit accompanied by violet notes and spicy hints. The palate is full-bodied, deep and elegant. A medium-bodied wine with noticeable acidity, silky tannins and a long, lingering finish.
2018

Alión 2018 is a taut and refined red wine. On the nose, it is vibrant, with exquisitely delicate floral scents (violet) and fruity notes (blackberry, orange peel). The palate is rounded and smooth, featuring solid and streamlined tannins. The oak is exceptionally well-integrated, contributing to a pleasing texture. Here too, the dark fruits mingle with the zesty freshness of citrus. A very lively and intense style. The finish is extended, evoking juicy plums.
2017

Alión 2017 is a mature red wine boasting intricate aromas of red and black fruits, complemented by hints of violet and nuanced with spicy undertones. On the palate, it is full-bodied, robust, and refined. This wine is exceptionally indulgent, characterized by sweet, silky tannins and seamlessly integrated acidity. The finish is extensive and enduring.

 

 
2015 Alión is a fleshy, complex and intense red wine that reveals an aromatic range of red fruits with notes of fine toasted wood. The ripe black and red fruits reappear on the palate, accompanied by a sweet tannin and a creaminess from the aging process. This is a powerful and fleshy wine with a long and elegant finish.
2011 On the palate, sweet tannins of concentrated black fruit combined with sweet and creamy tannins from French oak. It is flavourful, powerful, and fleshy with a display of truly evocative nuances.

Concentrated colour that is dark but a bright and seductive rim, from its few years of youth but seasoned wood.

The aroma reveals a rare intensity of the wines from Denomination Ribera del Duero. There are roasted nuances of grape and toasted luxury wood aromas.
2009 It shows a good mid palate with a great load of fruit notes, well balanced with the subtle notes of wood and some spicy hints. Its mid palate is tasty, fleshy and expressive. It has sweet and refined tannins, still quite drying. Good acidity which provides a deep and crispy wine. Long and very persistent finish. One of the greatest Spanish wines.

Dark cherry colour with violet reflections. Clean and bright wine with a high robe. Slightly coloured tears.

Clean and very intense nasal aromas which show a good balance between the intense notes of ripe red and black fruit and the nice toasted notes. Abundant spicy nuances (vanilla, nutmeg, pepper) are noticed along with some good notes of tobacco, soft hints of cocoa, a subtle mineral touch and light balsamic nuances which complete a serious, complex and elegant nose.
2008 Powerful and embracing attack. It shows a good load of fruit notes, well integrated notes of wood and some spicy hints. Its mid palate is tasty, fleshy and expressive. Sweet, polished and unctuous tannins and a good acidity. Great structure. Long and persistent finish.

Clean and very intense nasal aromas which show a good balance between the intense notes of ripe red and black fruit and the nice toasted notes, which progressively turn into roasted aromas. Abundant spicy nuances (vanilla, nutmeg, pepper) are noticed along with some good notes of tobacco and leather and a subtle mineral hint.
2007 Honest and voluminous on the palate. Medium-bodied with good acidity and very intense, ripe tannins. Not too long a finish but very persistent. Sweet roasted and smoky notes at retro-olfaction.

Ruby red colour with maroon rim. High robe, clean and bright with slow-falling tears staining the glass.

Good intensity. Initially aromas of its ageing appear that gradually give way to spicy, balsamic and mineral notes. Red and black ripe fruit slowly emerges in the background. Well-balanced, ripe and expressive.
2006 Powerful attack that fills the mouth. Lots of fruit, with well integrated wood and spicy flavours. Very tasty, meaty and expressive mid palate. Polished and creamy tannins. Long, persistent finish. All this features turn it into a round wine.

Dark cherry red with violet trims. High and shiny robe. Dense and very slow tears.

Intense aromas of ripe black fruit which emerge together with notes of roasted and different spices (vanilla, nutmeg, pepper), a note of snuff and a subtle mineral touch.
2005 The palate, concentrated tannins of black fruit combined with sweet tannins and creamy French oak. It is tasty, powerful, meaty, with a truly impressive display of hues.

The color is concentrated, dark, bright and seductive edge, denotes his youth.
