About Alto Siós

Alto Siós is a red wine coupage of the Syrah, Tempranillo and Garnacha varieties produced by Costers del Sió, in the D.O. Costers del Segre, in Catalonia.

Alto Siós is made with clusters from the winery’s six best plots. After the harvest, the grapes pass over the selection table before being taken to the winery where they are pressed and macerated cold. They then ferment under controlled temperatures with cap plunges and rack and return, techniques that are used to encourage colour and phenolic compound extraction, and that are carried out in separate batches and varieties.

The resulting wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in barrels and is then aged in French oak barrels of different origins and toasting to achieve complexity and elegance.

Costers del Sió is a relatively young winery, set up by Juan de Porcioles who, making his dreams a reality, acquired the estate in 1992 and works with his family to revive the area’s wine tradition with the aim of producing high quality wines with their own personalities.

The estate lies on the banks of the Sió river in a place called Flix. The vineyards are planted in shallow soils of silty loam texture and lie at an altitude of 310 metres, where the climate is predominantly Mediterranean with continental influences.

“A great wine starts with the vine, and we must take care of it as it deserves”. This is the philosophy the Porcioles family and their team work with and this is obvious in the Alto Siós wine.

2017

Alto Siós 2017 is a richly concentrated red. On the nose, it is robust, brimming with notes of dark fruit, florals, and rosemary. It possesses a woody backdrop, seamlessly integrated, adorned with hints of chocolate. The palate is delightful and flavorsome, underscored by a zesty acidity. Harmoniously balanced. The tannins are gentle. It culminates in a lingering finish. 
2014 Alto Siós 2014 is a red wine with powerful aromas of black fruits reminiscent of blackberries or blueberries on the nose, accompanied by floral, balsamic and mineral notes that are rounded with nuances of chocolate and toasted bread with very well integrated wood. On the palate it is full bodied with a rich structure. It has silky and elegant tannins, with a good and well integrated acidity and a long and persistent finish.
2010 Elegant and tasty attack in which fine and sweet tannins and a well-integrated acidity stand out, thus making this wine bulky and fleshy, and at the same time, leaving a long and persistent aftertaste with toasted reminiscences and ripe black fruit nuances at retro-olfaction.

Intense ruby red colour with maroon edges. Clean and bright.

High-intensity nose in which fruity, spiced, mineral and roasted aromas are perfectly mixed together in harmony.
