Altos de Losada Godello 2023 dazzles with its pale yellow hue, bright and crystalline. Bringing the glass closer, one perceives intense aromas of fresh flowers and fruits such as apples and pears, intertwined with a subtle mineral touch that makes it truly distinctive. About Altos de Losada Godello

Bierzo has become quite the trend, and as is often the case with trends, everyone wants to be part of the narrative. However, in this instance, the trend is anything but fleeting: its slate soils, the Atlantic climate with a hint of the Mediterranean, and its indigenous grape varieties, such as mencía, endow the wines of Bierzo with a unique character, freshness, and a hard-to-replicate identity. It is no coincidence that mencía has placed the region on the map of Spain's most prestigious reds, becoming the flagship grape of Bierzo.

Nevertheless, within this wine movement, there are those who choose to take a different path. This is the case with Losada, a winery that since its inception has committed to exploring new ways of understanding viticulture in El Bierzo. Instead of focusing solely on the classic slate hillside vineyards, Losada has also dedicated itself to reviving old vineyards in clayey areas, seeking distinct and unique expressions of the land. Moreover, they are exploring another of the region's star varieties: godello.

Their Altos de Losada Godello is an excellent example of this philosophy. Sourced from the localities of San Lorenzo and San Esteban de Valdueza, these low-yield old godello vines are meticulously cultivated and hand-harvested to ensure each cluster arrives in perfect condition. In the winery, the grapes undergo cold maceration and ferment in small stainless steel tanks, without pressing, preserving all their freshness and purity. Subsequently, they are aged for 8 months on lees in concrete eggs and used 2,000-litre French oak foudres, adding complexity without losing the variety's identity.

Elegant, expressive, and with a distinctive minerality, Altos de Losada Godello proves that whites can also shine, inviting one to discover the personality of old vineyards and appreciate how the craftsmanship of Bierzo extends far beyond its red grapes and slate slopes.
