About Altos De Corral Single Estate Reserva

In La Rioja Alta, in close proximity to Navarrete, lies the estate Altos de Corral. Here, at an elevation exceeding 700 metres above sea level, the family that lends its name to this familial enterprise cultivates a superb, fresh and delicate tempranillo, both acidic and flavourful. In essence: one of the finest tempranillos to have graced the D.O.Ca. Rioja. From these grapes, Altos de Corral Reserva is crafted, a red wine that is highly likely to rank among the best of this denomination in the northeastern region of Spain. 
 
Undoubtedly, the combination of clay-limestone and alluvial soils, along with the climate, which fluctuates between Mediterranean and Atlantic (with mild winters and dry summers) contributes to shaping the character of Altos de Corral Reserva. The remaining work is entrusted to the hands of the vintners, wise custodians of tradition and artisanal knowledge, who strive to extract the finest from this terroir each vintage. This expertise is transferred to the winery, where Altos de Corral Reserva is crushed and transferred to fermentation tanks where the yeasts will carry out the fermentation process. Following this, and now transformed into wine, Altos de Corral Reserva will be moved to 225-litre barrels for aging of more than a year. This will be complemented by a further aging of at least one year in the bottle. 
 
The most sublime expression of the tempranillo is preserved here, in Altos de Corral Reserva, a perfect homage to centuries-old tradition and craftsmanship. A taste and complexity destined to be one of the greatest in the D.O.Ca. Rioja. Anyone who claims otherwise is mistaken. 
2022
Altos de Corral Single Estate Reserva 2022 exhibits a deep purple hue with ruby-red edges. On the nose, it is distinguished by its aromas of ripe black fruits such as blueberries, accompanied by notes of black truffle, leather, and tobacco leaf. On the palate, it is dense and full-bodied, with medium tannins that lend a smoothness. Oak, coffee, and mocha nuances are discernible, blending into a long and pleasant finish. This wine beckons one to savour its complexity and richness.
