Antinori Solaia is a wood-aged red wine made by Marchesi Antinori with the Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Sangiovese varieties in the IGP Toscana.
Marchesi Antinori is a large family group that owns wineries in the Italian regions of Tuscany, Puglia, Umbria, Piedmont and Lombardy and, outside of Italy, in Chile, the USA, Malta, Hungary and Romania. Their Finca Tignanello project lies in the heart of the Chianti Classico denomination and their two wines Solaia and Tignanello, are considered by critics as leading wines in this country’s winemaking history.
Antinori Solaia comes from a 10-hectare vineyard located on gentle slopes at an altitude of 350-400 metres. These are old vines planted in soils with a rich presence of calcareous rocks and marl. They are cultivated using environmentally friendly agriculture and the vines enjoy warm temperatures during the day and cold temperatures at night.
In the winery, each variety used to make Antinori Solaia vinifies separately, fermenting with native yeasts at a controlled temperature. Malolactic fermentation then takes place, followed by aging in new French oak barrels for 18 months before bottling.
Antinori Solaia is a great wine from Tuscany and one of the best known wines in the world. It is also only produced in great vintages. This is a classic that never goes out of fashion, it has great concentration and is made for keeping.
