About Belguardo Vermentino

Vermentino is a white grape that needs a warm climate, and can only be grown in regions that are well exposed to the sun. This is a distinctly Mediterranean variety found mainly in southern Europe, especially in southern France, northern Italy, the islands of Corsica and Sardinia and other coastal regions around the world. In Italy it is common on the Tyrrhenian coast, in Tuscany, and this is where the Mazzei family, one of the richest and most powerful in the region, has its own versions of this international variety.

In fact, since the Mazzei family acquired the Belguardo estates in the Maremma area of Tuscany in the 1990s, they have invested a lot of time and money in improving this variety. Through cloning and an exhaustive study of the terroir, they have achieved absolute mastery of Vermentino. This is clear to see in Belguardo Vermentino, a wine whose grapes are grown in the hills between Grosseto and Montiano, a few kilometres from the sea, and in a mainly artisan way. In the winery, maximum purity and typicity are sought. To do this, after sorting, destemming and gently pressing the fruit, the resulting must is fermented at low temperature.

In this way, Belguardo Vermentino reflects the production philosophy of Marchesi Mazzei, head of one of Italy’s most successful wineries, which, now opening up to the Maremma, one of the country's most promising areas, rediscovers a native grape variety that has its home on the Tyrrhenian coast.

Belguardo Vermentino 2024 astonishes with its freshness and vivacity. On the nose, it unfolds a symphony of fruits such as grapefruit and green apple, intertwined with subtle floral tones reminiscent of linden. Upon tasting, its silky and balanced texture stands out, with a vibrant acidity that feels juicy and refreshing. Its finish is delightfully citrusy, evoking ripe lemons that linger on the palate. The 2024 vintage has been generous in its aromatic expression, offering a wine full of life. It is ideal for white wine enthusiasts seeking freshness combined with intriguing complexity and a lasting finish.

2020

Belguardo Vermentino 2020 is an aromatic white wine with a fragrant nose of peach, citrus and acacia. On the palate it is juicy, fresh and savoury. A medium-bodied wine with excellent structure, great smoothness and an attractively mineral finish.
