About Bernat Oller Blanc de Picapolls

Bernat Oller Blanc de Picapolls is a white wine from D.O. Pla del Bages, produced by the winery Oller del Mas in the municipality of Manresa (Barcelona).

 

Oller del Mas is a winery located in a restored medieval castle from the 10th century. The Margenat family is the heir and curator of the history of the Oller family.

The farm of Oller del Mas has 600 hectares, 60 of which are certified as organic vineyard, cultivated without any chemical synthesis products and using organic fertilisers. It is also the first winery in Catalonia and the third in the world to have the lowest carbon emissions (0.7 grams per litre).

The soils that we find at Oller del Mas are quite diverse. However, the loamy-clayey soils and the calcareous ones stand out. The climate in this area is strictly Mediterranean-continental, characterised by scarce rainfall and a strong variation in temperatures.

 

Bernat Oller Blanc de Picapolls is a wine made from Picapoll Blanc and Picapoll Negre from the farmsEl Simulacre and Finca Baltasar, that are over 20 years old, located at 280 metres of altitude on clay loam soils poor in organic matter.

The grapes are manually harvested and placed in 15-kg boxes. When they arrive at the winery, they go through cold maceration before the pressing. The Picapoll Negre is vinified as blanc de noirs, fermenting in concrete egg-shaped containers and aged for 4 months. In the meanwhile, the Picapoll Blanc ferments in stainless steel deposits at 16°C for 21 days. Here it remains with its fine lees for 4 months, with daily pump-overs.

 

2019 Bernat Oller Blanc de Picapolls 2019 is a profiled, aromatic and complex wine. The aromas of white and tropical fruit stand out, as well as the notes of fresh grass. In the mouth, it is structured, with a certain creaminess, and very long.
