Blanc d’Orto is a white wine from the D.O Montsant produced by the winery Orto Vins. This wine is a single variety wine, made using only Garnacha Blanca.
The grapes used for Blanc d’Orto come from 5 different estates owned by the winery: four of which are located in El Masroig, with the fifth situated in Torre de Fontaubella, together spanning just over 1.5 hectares. The vineyards are home to mainly calcareous soils, with abundant amounts of clay and gravel. The vines, which are between 40 and 60 years old, grow on low bush vines at altitudes of between 90-330 metres and are organically cultivated. The vineyards are home to mainly calcareous soils, with abundant amounts of clay and gravel.
The winemaking process begins with destemming the grapes. Following this, the grapes are moved to 3,000litre capacity stainless tanks, where the subsequent processes of maceration and fermentation take place. Blanc d’Orto then rests on its lees for 7 months in the same tanks. The wine is then lightly filtered but not clarified before being bottled.
Orto Vins is a young winery, founded in 2008, and is situated in the town of El Masroig. Founded and lead by four partners who have decades of experience in the world of wine. One of the founders, Joan Asens, not only has collaborated with Álvaro Palacios, but is also currently working with Alfredo Arribas on his latest adventure.
