About Charles Joguet Les Petites Roches Rouge
Occasionally, art transforms without seeking permission. Charles Joguet was 26 years old, residing in Paris and dedicated to painting and sculpture when, in 1957, his father's passing compelled him to return to his homeland: Sazilly, in Chinon (Loire). For a time, he lived torn between two lights: the one in his Parisian studio and the softer, quieter, more ancient light of the Loire Valley. Then, as he walked the plots, observed the soils, and listened to the wind among the vines, art ceased to be canvas and became earth. Joguet, lacking oenological training, crafted his own path. He was the first in Chinon to separate grapes from young and old vines, to vinify by parcels, and to advocate that each soil deserved its own wine. What many deemed an eccentricity was, in truth, a quiet revolution that transformed the region and paved the way for a modern understanding of wine.
Now retired, Joguet has entrusted his legacy to the talented Kevin Fontaine, yet his spirit—poetic, nonconformist, and deeply connected to the landscape—remains alive in every bottle of the Domaine.
Among them, Les Petites Roches Rouge precisely encapsulates that spirit. It originates from several plots on the left bank of the Vienne, with clay and limestone soils that define a clear style. Previously known as "Jeunes Vignes," its name evolved to pay homage to the essentials: the small rocks (Petites Roches) and the limestone bedrock that define its identity. A cabernet franc cultivated with biodynamic treatments and crafted in the winery with free-run wine and without the use of artifices.
Les Petites Roches Rouge is a precise and vibrant cabernet franc. For sometimes, art simply takes root, breathes beneath the earth, and ultimately is served in a glass.
| 2021 | Charles Joguet Les Petites Roches Rouge 2021 dazzles with its brilliant ruby red hue and violet reflections, which evoke its youthful and vibrant character. On approach, the nose is filled with an explosion of fresh red fruits such as cherries and raspberries, subtly interwoven with herbaceous notes and spicy hints from the cabernet franc, presenting an intriguing nuance of pepper and damp earth that adds depth. On the palate, it reveals a balanced freshness, with the red fruits complemented by a lively acidity and silky smooth tannins. It offers a pronounced minerality and a prolonged finish that speaks of elegance and freshness. Ideal for those seeking an expressive wine, with an understated elegance and a captivating aromatic profile. |
