About Château Bélair-Monange

Château Bélair-Monange is a red wine mainly made with Merlot and with a touch of Cabernet Franc. It is a wine rated as Saint-Émilion Grand Cru and is produced by Château Bélair-Monange.

Château Bélair-Monange is a winery that was already making wine before the French Revolution. However, after Jean Pierre Moueix acquired the winery in 2008, it was really reborn. To the previous name they added Monange, the surname of Moueix’s mother, the first woman in the family to settle in Saint-Émilion. It is currently the leading winemaker the area, and its vineyards are rated as Premier Grand Cru Classé.

The vineyards for Château Bélair-Monange cover a total of 23.5 hectares on limestone soils on the plateau and blue clay over limestone on the hillsides. 90% of the vineyard is Merlot and the rest is Cabernet Franc. The vines have an average age of 25 years and the grapes are harvested manually.

The Château Bélair-Monange harvest goes through a double selection process, both manual and optical, so that only the best bunches are vinified. Once selected, the harvest is vatted in stainless steel and cement tanks with temperature control. During the fermentation, a sweet and controlled maceration and extraction takes place. Lastly the wine ages for about 16 to 18 months in oak barrels, half of which are new.

Château Bélair-Monange is a muscular wine that is powerful, concentrated and sumptuous, as well as aromatically complex, floral and spicy.
