About Château de Fonsalette Côtes du Rhône Rouge

On 25 November 2025, the wine world lost one of its most enigmatic and beloved figures. Emmanuel Reynaud, the owner and soul of three iconic estates in the southern Rhône—Château Rayas in Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Château des Tours and Château de Fonsalette in Côtes-du-Rhône—passed away at the age of 61 after a prolonged illness. His departure leaves a void difficult to fill, not only in his region but also in the memory of all who cherished his unique approach to viticulture.
Emmanuel was a discreet, even elusive man. He preferred to stroll among his vineyards rather than parade through international fairs. For him, travel did not hold the same value as a perfect day of pruning or a fermentation proceeding exactly as it should. He did not need to traverse the globe to promote his wines. The entire world came to him.

His oenological impact is unmistakable. Reynaud imbued all his wines with a highly personal style, as imitated as it is impossible to replicate. Oenologists from across the globe regarded him as a reference, especially those working with Grenache, the grape that defined the identity of his three estates. Yet, although many tried to follow his path, his style remains unparalleled worldwide. Wines that seem crafted more with intuition than technique, more with sensitivity than rules. It is unsurprising that his wines have become genuine cult objects, achieving some of the highest prices in the Rhône at international auctions.

Among the wines that best reflect the sensitivity of Emmanuel Reynaud is Côtes du Rhône Rouge from Château de Fonsalette. Crafted with Grenache, Cinsault, and Syrah, it originates from a diverse estate that combines vineyards with forests, olive groves, and farmland. Like all wines under his care, it receives almost obsessive attention: manual harvesting, vinification separated by terroirs, and barrel ageing that may extend between 14 and 18 months, using wood aged one to three years to prevent the wood from overshadowing the wine's essence.

Château de Fonsalette Côtes du Rhône Rouge is a red wine of crystalline purity, delicate yet profound, embodying the unique and admired aesthetic of Reynaud. A wine of magnetic allure, capable of conveying its personality and ensuring that its creator's legacy endures far beyond his time.
