About Château Gruaud Larose

The Bordeaux region of France is known for its exceptional terroir. Many of the large houses here have passed through the hands of different families over the years. These are century-old pedigree estates that, both for their location and reputation, play an important role in their coveted position in the market. In the case of Château Gruaud Larose, an outstanding estate located in the Saint-Julie AOC, it was founded by Abbé Gruaud in 1725 and then, in 1781, became the responsibility of his nephew, the Chevalier de Larose. But if it was this family that consolidated the name of the winery, others that came after them, such as the Balguerie, Sarget and Verdonnet families, have been able to maintain the 'Second cru classé' legacy according to the 1855 classification. Today, after passing through many hands, it is owned by the Merlaut family, a family that manages some of the best properties in the Médoc and knows how to restore the splendour in each of them better than anyone.

Knowing in advance that this is an estate with an exceptional terroir, Château Gruaud Larose has never stopped using organic methods, favouring integrated pest management and environmentally-friendly approaches. A total of 82 hectares of vineyards are planted on deep gravel hills next to the Garonne River, from where, of course, its homonymous wine originates. A coupage of cabernet sauvignon, merlot and cabernet franc from vines with an average age of 25 years whose organic and biodynamic treatment contributes to their exceptional quality. The grapes are harvested by hand and, once in the cellar, they are selected, destemmed and gently crushed to start the vinification process. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks with native yeasts and then the wine is aged in French oak barrels until it is refined.

Fine, spicy and complex, Château Gruaud Larose comprises all the qualifiers of a Second Cru Classe range. A classic style wine that expresses the fruit and finesse for which Bordeaux, and more specifically the Saint-Julie AOC, is so famous.

2022

Château Gruaud Larose 2022 is a concentrated red wine with deep aromas of black fruit, lilac flowers, and herbal minty notes. On the palate, it is muscular, generous, and elegant. A medium-bodied wine with soft tannins, a rich mouthfeel, and refreshing acidity. The finish is long and luscious.
