Red wine Biodynamic.

Château Haut-Bergey 2022 is a concentrated wine. On the nose, it is lively and fresh, with aromas of peonies, violets, licorice, and graphite. On the palate, it is structured and succulent, medium-bodied, with a brilliant acidity. Very appealing finish. Very persistent.

About Château Haut-Bergey

The French use the expression Un coup de foudre (which literally means A stroke of lightning) to speak about crushes and love at first sight.

Something like this, suddenly, passionately, was what Sylviane Garcin felt the first time she set foot in Château Haut-Bergey. She knew that taking over the stores of this property, founded in the 15th century, was not going to be easy. Hours of work and effort (both physical and financial) lay ahead; but it didn't matter. The charm of the château, the quality of the terroir and its location (half an hour's drive from Bordeaux) were strong arguments for buying the estate.

That was in the early 1990s. Today, three decades later, Château Haut-Bergey is witnessing major advances: the complete reconstruction of the cellar, the transformation to organic and biodynamic farming and the expansion of the estate from the initial 18 hectares to the current 44 hectares of old vineyard (with some vines over 60 years old). Of these, only two are dedicated to the cultivation of white varieties (sémillon and sauvignon blanc); the rest will be planted with merlot, cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, petit verdot and malbec.

According to cellar master François Prouteau, ‘What is important when developing a vineyard is that, in the end, everything is exceptional.’ And not only in the field. The cellar work must also be exquisite. In this work, an effort is always made to respect the terroir, allowing Château Haut-Bergey to show its true character. The secret to this is vinification in large barrels, where the tannins can be gently moulded, without eliminating or modifying the power and strength that makes Château Haut-Bergey so special. ‘A grand cru must tell the story of the art hidden in its terroir and the men who shape it,’ says Pablo Garcin. Time to stop talking. Now it's Château Haut-Bergey’s turn to talk. Let's see what it has to say…
