About Château Haut-Brion

Château Haut-Brion is a red wine that is a coupage of Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc from the AOC Pessac-Léognan, produced by Château Haut Brion.

Château Haut-Brion is a winery inBordeaux with more than four centuries of history. The first references to wine production dates back to 1521. It is one of the 4 Premier Cru that obtained that category in the 1855 classification, and the only one that did not belong to the Medoc. The winery is located in Pessac, in the Graves region, very close to Bordeaux. Their vineyards of red varieties consist mainly of Cabernet Sauvignon, followed by Merlot and Cabernet Franc; those of white varieties consist of 3 hectares of Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

The vineyards for Château Haut-Brion have an average age of 30 years, although some strains are now over 90 years old. The grapes are fermented in stainless steel tanks and aged in new French oak barrels for 24 to 27 months.Château Haut-Brion was one of the first wineries in Bordeaux to vinify in stainless steel tanks. Lastly, the wine is clarified using six egg whites per barrel. Most of the barrels they use are produced in their own cooperage.

There have been many famous individuals who have mentioned the greatness of Château Haut-Brion wines, among them the British philosopher John Locke, Cardinal Richelieu or the third president of the USA ,Thomas Jefferson.

Château Haut-Brion is a wine that is rounded, complex, voluminous and meaty, with balsamic and smoked notes. Year after year it is considered one of the best wines in the world.

Its colour is intensely alluring, reflecting a vibrant and luminous character that invites exploration. Over time, its flavours harmoniously integrate, leaving a finish of fresh spices like mint and more clove, lingering on the palate. This wine is commendable for its intricate structure and perfect balance between sweetness and acidity, qualities that make it stand out among the most refined wines.

2022

Château Haut-Brion 2022 is a concentrated red wine with classic aromas of ripe black and red fruits accompanied by floral notes and hints of pencil lead. On the palate, it is full, velvety, and very elegant. A medium-bodied wine with polished tannins and bright acidity. The finish is long and very mineral.

2015 Château Haut Brion 2015 is a deep maroon red wine. On the nose it is initially mature and intense. Swirling the glass reveals more complex aromas, with notes of ripe red and black fruit, but without being excessive. The spices are mixed with fruit, licorice, a light touch of cloves ... The attack on the palate is broad and silky. The wine immediately fills the palate without being hard, and in all its dimensions: height, width and depth. Ripe fruit flavours can be detected, mixed with cocoa beans. The end is lingering, with notes of mocha, along with a slight coffee-like bitterness. It is one of Château Haut Brion’s best vintages - a wine with exceptional ageing potential.
2014 Château Haut Brion 2014 has a beautiful and delicate nose with aromas of black berries such as blackberry and black currant, and empyreumatical notes. On the palate it is structured with generous polished tannins, a material that combines power and elegance and lasts for a very long time.
2013 Château Haut Brion 2013 has a dark and stable colour. On the nose it is deep and reveals pronounced aromas of black fruit and spices. The attack is powerful but melts in the middle of the palate to make way for a more velvety assembly. The finely polished tannic structure is adorned with a beautiful wide and dense material. Its finish is lingering and very full.
2012 In Château Haut Brion 2012 the Merlot is favoured, making up two thirds of the combination. On the nose it is subtle, elegant and highly complex. There are notes of delicate ripe red fruit and black currants, but also warmer touches, such as licorice, toasted notes and woody notes, and lastly some touches that are almost floral. On the palate it initially has a tight structure, but we very quickly notice that the tannins are coated, which makes the wine smoother, fatty, juicy and tasty. The wine is lingering and very pleasant. The 2012 vintage has the potential to compete with the winery’s greatest successes.
2011 Château Haut Brion 2011 is a wine with a beautiful deep red colour. On the nose it is intense, with ripe black fruit mixed with notes of cocoa beans. After a little airing, the complexity explodes and the typical aromas of Haut-Brion can be appreciated. The attack on the palate is fine and very elegant, powerful but not jarring, with tannins that are still covered, and blooming into a beautiful lingering finish with great flavour.
