About Château Malartic-Lagravière Blanc

"Nothing exceptional can be achieved without an exceptional terroir". And we wholeheartedly concur with Château Malartic-Lagravière, one of the most fascinating estates in Bordeaux. It boasts one of the most unique soils you will ever encounter. And Château Malartic-Lagravière Blanc, a wine so captivating it will ensnare your senses.

What renders this winery from the A.O.C. Pessac-Léognan so special? Primarily, its location atop an elevated terrace through which the Eau Blanche stream flows; followed by its ancient soils, rich in fine gravel, shell limestone, and clay, creating the perfect amalgam for the growth of its vineyards. The gravel (situated in the upper zone) ensures proper drainage, while the limestone retains moisture, even during the driest months when the vines find solace from the heat by extending their roots deep into the layers saturated with water from the Garonne's tributaries that flood the area. In this regard, we've already hinted that few wines can stand shoulder to shoulder with Château Malartic-Lagravière Blanc, one of the finest whites you can taste in Bordeaux. Historically acknowledged as exceptional aging wines, Château Malartic-Lagravière Blanc is a spectacle you must not miss for several reasons:

The first of these is its cultivation, utterly respectful, with special attention to all living beings and ecosystems within the vineyard. This entails working with a certain awareness and care, with manual labor tailored to each plot, with gentle plowing—not overly aggressive—and late pruning that aids the plant in withstanding winter frosts. Thus, there is no need for chemical products as aid. The plant will possess the necessary tools to defend itself and develop independently. These low winter temperatures are somewhat counterbalanced by the heat that the surface gravels release at night. Throughout the day, these pebbles are exposed to the sun, accumulating heat which is then emitted nocturnally.

The second reason you must not overlook Château Malartic-Lagravière Blanc is its meticulous production process. After manual harvesting, the sauvignon blanc and sémillon used to make this wine are brought to the winery, where they undergo optical sorting and are always transferred by gravity. This means that the grapes are moved solely by the weight of this physical law, eschewing any machinery that might hasten the oxidation of the must. The same care and dedication are applied during pressing, yielding a clean and high-quality juice. This will undoubtedly provide an excellent foundation for the fermentation of Château Malartic-Lagravière Blanc which will take place in oak barrels, where it will also age on its lees. In this final step, which will last several months, the practice of bâtonnage, or stirring of the lees, will be crucial, endowing this white with a unique and unmistakable character.

Now, when in search of something exceptional, you need not venture far. The extraordinary is within your grasp with Château Malartic-Lagravière Blanc. Enjoy!
