About Château Pape Clément Blanc

Attention! Focus your senses on what is to come. You are before Château Pape Clément, one of the oldest estates in Bordeaux. Over 700 harvests and a wealth of history endorse the legacy of this legendary property within the A.O.C. Pessac-Léognan. While particularly renowned for its red wines, the Château Pape Clément Blanc also shines with its whites. There may be no official accolade or classification to certify this, but that’s where we step in to present you with the Château Pape Clément Blanc.

Much is said about the 1855 Bordeaux Classification; however, the 1959 Graves Classification, where Château Pape Clément secured a spot, is seldom discussed. This chapter is but one of the many that comprise the riveting history of this estate, founded by Pope Clement V, managed by the Archbishopric of Bordeaux, and confiscated during the French Revolution. Quite the narrative. Nevertheless, despite historical upheavals, nothing has diminished the quality of their wines, both red and white. The first vines planted were red varieties (currently covering about 30 hectares); however, the white vineyards (spanning approximately 2.5 hectares) soon followed suit. The combination and outcome could not have been better. The quality of the grape clusters is exceptional, thriving in this blend of limestone and gravel soils.

In the winery, Château Pape Clément Blanc is taken directly to the pneumatic press, where the whole berry is slowly and gently pressed under an inert atmosphere to obtain the finest must possible. Throughout the winemaking process, Château Pape Clément Blanc is transferred by gravity, moving to the tanks and concrete eggs (where it will ferment) and then to the French oak barrels for maturation. Here, in this final stage, the batonnage or stirring of the lees is crucial, endowing the wine with body and texture.

So, venture to try Château Pape Clément Blanc. It’s not every day that one has the opportunity to taste one of the oldest wines from Bordeaux.
