About Château Rieussec

Château Rieussec is a sweet wine cask made by Château Rieussec with the Sauvignon Blanc, Muscadelle and Semillon varieties in the French denomination AOC Sauternes Premier Cru Classe (Bordeaux).

 

The domain of Rieussec has its origins in the 18th century when it belonged to the Carmelite monks of Carmes de Langon. But they were expropriated with the revolution and from then on it has passed through the hands of different owners. A complete historical journey in which two dates must be highlighted. The first in 1855, when it was declared Premier Cru Classé de Sauternes and Barsac and the second in 1984, when it became the property of Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) and applied rigorous measures to achieve the finest expression of the place.

 

 

 

Château Rieussec comes from a vineyard which covers 93 hectares of clay and sandy soil. It’s a Premier Grand Cru which runs between Fragues and Sauternes in Bordeaux and whose production is low and variable. The harvest is carried out in several batches depending on the maturation of the grapes and the evolution of the botrytis cinerea (noble rot) and can last between 6 and 8 weeks.

 

 

Once in the cellar, the Château Rieussec grapes are gently pressed and fermented in barrels. The wine then ages for 18 to 26 months in oak barrels, half of which are new.  

 

 

Being one of the first references to Sauternes, Château Rieussec is the result of a Premier Grand Cru which is located around Yquem. A rich and deep sweet wine.

 

 

2011 Château Rieussec 2011 is a sweet wine with floral aromas, hints of ripe white fruit and delicate woody touches. On the palate it’s ample, generous and elegant. A balanced step where liquor and freshness intermingle and which ends with a slightly bitter touch.
