It's no coincidence that we're suggesting this wine, crafted in the esteemed A.O.C. Pomerol. For years, this appellation, nestled on the right bank of the Gironde in Bordeaux, was renowned for its warm hospitality. Historically, this area, which was once a parish managed by the Hospitallers of St. John of Jerusalem, became a pivotal refuge for pilgrims on the Way of St. James, offering an ideal haven to rejuvenate spirit and strength. It's said that a significant part of this renewal was due to their red wines, establishing A.O.C. Pomerol as an essential stop, even today (regardless of the saint and his path). Part of this tradition endures thanks to small family enterprises, such as Château Tour Maillet, one of the finest producers you can discover in Bordeaux, where Château Tour Maillet, their eponymous wine, is crafted. Nothing compares to this merlot monovarietal with a year of aging in oak barrels. We can assert this for several reasons. 
 
The first of these is that since 2021, the use of herbicides in the A.O.C. Pomerol has been curtailed. Although not yet a drastic decision, this initiative has already been implemented at Château Tour Maillet, where all crops and vineyards are tended with respect, without mortgaging the ecosystem for future generations. Specifically, the terroir of this appellation, primarily composed of gravel soils, is quite distinctive when considering what lies beneath its base: iron oxide. This is the second reason that makes Château Tour Maillet so special, as this sublayer of mineral stone imparts a unique character to the wines of the A.O.C. Pomerol in general, and to those of Château Tour Maillet in particular. 
 
Few more details are necessary to prove that Château Tour Maillet is a singular red wine. From its harvest (where each grape is hand-selected from vineyards over 35 years old), to its aging in barrels (for at least one year).
