About Château Tronquoy
For years, the A.O.C. Saint-Stèphe has been in the spotlight of major investors. Large companies and business magnates have set their sights on this corner of northern Bordeaux in western France, where historic properties are changing hands to these corporations: Swiss hotelier and entrepreneur Michel Reybier cast his eyes on the legendary Cos de Stournel (owned by the Prats family); Suravenir, the insurance subsidiary of the Crédit Mutuel Arkéa group (keep an eye on them!), took over the management of Château Calon Ségur from the Gasqueton family, and brothers Martin and Olivier Bouygues (billionaires thanks to their telecommunications and construction companies) have taken the helm of several properties such as Château Montrose and Château Tronquoy-Lalande.
In particular, the latter, Château Tronquoy-Lalande, is one of the oldest crus in the AOC Saint-Estèphe. Dating back to the 18th century when the first vineyards were planted around the castle, this property sits on soils of gravel and clay, over eight meters thick, which possess a very special characteristic: while the clay retains water in depth, the gravel allows excess rainwater to drain, thus achieving a perfect balance of water required by the vineyard. Additionally, the nearby Gironde estuary acts as a thermal regulator. This unique and unrepeatable place in the area corresponds to the lieu-dit Lalande, from which the property takes its name.
Currently, Château Tronquoy-Lalande spans a total of 30 hectares, where Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc are cultivated. These four varieties, grown in a traditional manner, form the soul of their red wine, Château Tronquoy. During its production, two moments are of particular importance. Firstly, the work in the field, where plowing the soil is given special attention (allowing for the elimination of spontaneous vegetation and enhancing microbial life). Secondly, the fermentation and aging process (the Bouygues brothers first built a new fermentation room with 22 stainless steel vats and a new aging cellar). In this place, Château Tronquoy spends at least one year in French oak barrels, with this waiting period extended in some vintages. Pure sophistication and elegance!

| 2022 | If power had to be associated with a wine, it would undoubtedly be Château Tronquoy 2022. This red wine, particularly rich, stands out for its freshness and juiciness. This is evident in its complex nose, with aromas of dark berries, cherries, and hints of oak. In this vintage, the palate will be marked by its high percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon (uncommon in this estate). Deep and with a flavorful finish. |
