Clos du Marquis 2023 is a red wine with a resolute character and a robust structure. On the nose, it unfolds scents of ripe cherries and dark berries, such as blackberries and blueberries, intertwined with subtle hints of spices. On the palate, its creamy and concentrated texture confirms the presence of dark fruits, framed by polished tannins that foretell a promising evolution. About Clos du Marquis

Clos du Marquis is a wood-aged red wine made by Château Léoville Las Cases with the Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc varieties in the AOC Saint-Julien, in Bordeaux (France).
 
Château Léoville Las Cases is one of Medoc’s historic estates. It was part of a much larger estate until it was split during the French Revolution, and it is now owned by Jean-Hubert Delon. They make two wines, their grand vin Château Léoville, and a second wine called Clos du Marquis. These two wines are full of character and elegance, they are made from an exceptional terroir and they perfectly express the Saint-Julien way.
 
Clos du Marquis comes from 98 hectares of exceptional vineyards. The vines are 30 years old, on average, and are planted in gravel soils that benefit from the microclimate created by the nearby Girondo River. They are traditionally cultivated to try and preserve the natural balance of the terroir and the harvest is carried out manually at the optimum point of ripeness. 
 
In the winery, Clos du Marquis follows a traditional winemaking process. Firstly, the grapes macerate for 15-20 days and then they vinify at a controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks. The wine is then aged for 18 months in new, 225-litre French oak barrels before being bottled. 
 
Château Léoville-Las Cases was one of the first Bordeaux estates to introduce a second label, and this Clos du Marquis is a powerful red wine with an authentic Saint Julien identity.

Clos du Marquis 2016 is a concentrated red wine with intense aromas of black fruits, notes of incense and salty touches of oyster shell. On the palate it is deep, complex and elegant. A powerful wine with precise and fine tannins, wonderful acidity and a long finish with a deliciously mineral aftertaste. Great aging potential.
