David & Nadia Grenache 2023 is a red wine that on the nose captures dehydrated raspberry and blackcurrant, seasoned with a subtle dusting of white pepper. The first sip is slender and vertical, luminous, with polished tannins. As it breathes, dried flowers emerge, a whisper of ferrous earth and that slight metallic hint of old tin that adds character. Fresh, elegant, and profound, this red confirms that South African Grenache now competes with the great Grenaches of the world.

About David & Nadia Grenache

David & Nadia Grenache is a single-variety Grenache red wine produced by the David & Nadia winery in the Wine of Origin Swartland denomination, South Africa.

David, a winemaker, and Nadia, with a background in soil science and viticulture, are a young couple who met while studying.  David and Nadia made their first wine in 2010 and are members of the Swartland Independent Producers group. They make wines from a range of vineyards which have different kinds of soil and are organically cultivated.

Their production philosophy is based on caring for nature because for them, wine is about natural balance, purity and freshness, qualities that can only be expressed if there is respect for the soil and vineyards, so they work under minimal intervention both in the vineyard and in the winery.

The David & Nadia Grenache wine is made from clusters that come from two vineyards, one of them located in Paarderberg with vines that are approximately twenty years old, which is what gives the wine its fruity core; the other vineyard is north of Malmesbury and has rich, deep clay soils and vines similar in age to those from Paarderberg.

The grapes go through four weeks of maceration before and during fermentation, which is takes place with 60% of the bunches whole. A minimal and gentle extraction takes place and the resulting wine ages for a year in neutral 500-litre French oak barrels. This all results in an aromatic and very sensual Grenache.

David & Nadia Grenache 2022 emerges as an elegant red wine, with an aroma reminiscent of rose petals and wild strawberries, complemented by a gentle hint of spice and toasted nuances. On the palate, its fluid and delicate texture is balanced by firm and structured tannins. It is a mature Grenache, with a subtle, aromatic, and enveloping profile.
