Intense aromas of red fruits such as Morello cherries and wild berries mingle with subtle notes of white pepper and dried herbs. About Dominio de Anza El Rapolao

In the world of wine, there are names that leave an indelible mark, that resonate even before tasting and evoke history, character, and uniqueness. El Rapolao is one such name. A historic vineyard in Valtuille de Abajo, DO Bierzo, which for decades was somewhat forgotten, almost overlooked due to its complexity: red clay soils with iron, challenging slopes, sunlight that arrives late and departs early, conditions that made ripening demanding and whimsical.

However, some great discoverers, lovers of authentic terroir, have breathed new life into it, recognising its immense potential. Today, El Rapolao has become one of the most coveted vineyards in Bierzo, capable of producing wines that blend history, personality, and precision.

Among those who have invested in this micro-territory is Diego Magaña, a young winemaker with Navarrese roots and international training. His project, Dominio de Anza, revolves around micro-parcels, small gems of terroir where every vineyard, every vine, and every gesture matters. Diego works with respect and precision, striving to extract the pure identity of each place, and Dominio de Anza El Rapolao is a perfect embodiment of this philosophy.

Diego's plot spans just 0.49 hectares within the vineyard, with mencía vines around 100 years old, planted after the phylloxera eradication. Harvesting is done by hand, carefully selecting each cluster. Vinification takes place in open 500-litre barrels, with temperature control and the use of indigenous yeast, and a 21-day maceration that does not exceed 27°C, to capture the full character of the terroir without forcing the fruit. The subsequent ageing lasts 12 months in 500-litre French barrels of second use, providing structure and smoothness, and allowing the vineyard's minerality and personality to shine in the bottle.

With Diego Magaña at the helm, El Rapolao demonstrates that there are names that leave a lasting impression and terroirs that, with patience and dedication, become true legends.
