About Domaine Arretxea Tradition

The French Basque Country is producing its own wine. This is the small appellation of Irouléguy, a wine-growing region that is still not very well-known but has some formidable estates that demonstrate their ability to produce remarkable wines, whether red, rosé or white. Among them, Arretxea, a precious property of the Riouspeyrous family, strives to bottle its terroir with great sincerity, precision and inspiration year after year. Under the guidance of Thérèse and Michel Riouspeyrous and with a clearly sustainable approach, their wines have become among the most sought-after in southwest France. All this know-how has been passed on to their children and has allowed them to pass on the project without losing their imprint.

Among the range of wines presented, Domaine Arretxea Tradition is a red wine made with the varieties tannat, cabernet franc and cabernet sauvignon. The vineyards are planted on terraces with ideal exposure, providing almost unchanging sunshine throughout the day, and the 3 grape varieties are spread over slate, clay with rough stones and limestone soils. The estate has been embracing biodynamic agriculture since 1993, and the harvest is carried out by hand when the grapes reach optimum ripeness. In the cellar, the selected grapes are macerated for 2 to 3 weeks and fermented and aged in concrete tanks for 10 months.

It is thanks to this diversity of terroirs that Domaine Arretxea Tradition exudes a delicious complexity. An aromatic, fresh and mineral wine that has joined those responsible for bringing the small Irouléuy AOC out of anonymity.

Domaine Arretxea Tradition 2019 is a easy-to-drink red wine with aromas of red fruits, spicy notes and hints of wild herbs. The palate is fruity, sweet and round. A wine with noticeable acidity, smooth tannins and a very pleasant sapid finish.
