About La Souteronne

Hervé Souhaut  La Souteronne is a monovarietal Gamay red wine produced by Hervé Souhaut in the Rhone Valley.

Hervé Souhaut  was created in 1993 by Hervé Souhaut. He has about 5 hectares of vineyards that are up to 100 years old located in the Rhone Valley, on the hill opposite Hermitage, in Saint Joseph. He buys a small quantity of grapes and produces approximately 25,000 bottles. In vinifying he seeks to extract just enough to make his wines drinkable shortly after being prepared, and to ensure that they do not require as much time in the bottle as do most wines from the same area.

The vineyard for Hervé Souhaut La Souteronne is between 60 and 80 years old, is bush-trained and produces a total of 3,000 bottles per year. The grapes are harvested by hand and subjected to a very long maceration at low temperature and without the stalks. The wine ferments in wooden tanks and is then bottled unfiltered. Very little sulphite has been produced during the whole process since the wine ends with about 25mg/litre of this substance.

Upon tasting, its juicy and fresh character is evident, with a balanced acidity that makes it very pleasant. Its body is light, making it an ideal choice for those seeking a wine that is easy to drink and enjoy on any occasion.
2017 Domaine Romaneaux La Souteronne 2017 has aromas of strawberry, black cherry, plum, fig paste, smoked herbs and crushed stones. On the palate black fruit dominates over red fruit, all of these over a mineral base note.
