Dr. Loosen Blue Slate R Trocken is a single-varietal white wine made from Riesling, classified as a VDP Mosel-Saar-Ruwer wine, produced by Dr. Loosen.

Dr. Loosen is one of the world's foremost producers of Riesling. The Loosen family, owners of the winery, have been dedicated to winemaking for over 200 years. The most recent to take the helm was Ernst Loosen. They own vineyards over 60 years old planted on their own rootstocks and produce approximately 70,000 bottles annually, making them one of the largest producers in the Mosel.

The vineyards for Dr. Loosen Blue Slate R Trocken are composed of Devonian blue slate from the Paleozoic era. The average yield per hectare is about 70 hectolitres per hectare, and the grapes are hand-harvested to allow for an initial selection of clusters in the field.

Dr. Loosen Blue Slate R Trocken ferments in stainless steel tanks, and the fermentation is halted by cooling to retain a touch of residual sugars.
