About El Velado

El Velado is an organic coupage of Garnacha, Tempranillo and other white varieties produced by Bodega Lanzaga in the D.O.Ca. Rioja, in La Rioja (Spain).
 
Bodega Lanzaga is the most intimate Rioja project of the Telmo Rodríguez Wine Company in La Rioja-Alavesa, in Lanciego, a town influenced by the Sierra de Cantabria. This project focusses their work on small, high-quality plots, native varieties and simple and intelligent winemaking. 
 
El Velado comes from the winery’s highest altitude vineyards. A plot of less than one hectare that lies 600 metres above sea level and is planted with vines aged around 80 years old on average. The vines are cultivated using organic agriculture and no chemical products. The harvest is carried out manually at the optimum point of ripeness. 
 
The El Velado grapes are destemmed and gently crushed to ferment in open 3,000-litre oak vats with native yeasts. The wine then ages in oak barrels and foudres for about 15 months before being bottled.
 
Heir to the best Rioja tradition, Telmo Rodríguez shows the more intimate side of La Rioja with El Velado, a unique blend of native Rioja varieties. 
 
2017 El Velado 2017 is a smooth red wine with delicious aromas of red and black fruit, delicate notes of pure violets and subtle hints of spice. On the palate it is juicy, fresh and compact. A medium-bodied, ultra-refined and very linear wine with fine tannins and balanced acidity. It has a lingering and persistent finish.
