About Emilio Rojo

Emilio Rojo is a barrel-aged white wine made by the winery of the same name using the Albariño, Treixadura, Loureira Blanca and Lado native varieties in the D.O. Ribeiro.

Emilio Rojo, a former telecommunications engineer, decided to change his career path and do what he really loves, making wine, and in a short time he has become one of the most distinctive names on the national wine scene. His success lies mainly in the high level of care he gives to the 0.5-hectare vineyard he has in the town of Arnoia (Orense). Although in 2019 it was taken over by the Ruiz Aragoneses family (owner of the Pago de Carraovejas and Ossian wineries), Emilio Rojo is still part of this project whose small productions of exceptional quality are sold before they can even reach the market.

Emilio Rojo only works the vineyards he can reach with his hands. A total of four plots that are looked after like a garden. This is meticulous manual cultivation of 15-year-old strains on granite soil that have very low yields (from five to six clusters per strain). The grapes are harvested by hand over multiple passes through the vineyard, marking with lime the vines to be harvested on each occasion.

When the Emilio Rojo grape reaches the winery, it is vinified separately. Part of the wine ferments in stainless steel tanks and part in French oak barrels from Limousin, Allier and Nevers. It then ages with its own lees for 16 months in a stainless steel tank with periodic battonage.

Emilio Rojo is one of the most sought after and most difficult to find national white wines due to its low production and exceptional quality. An artisanal work that results in a concentrated and complex wine that is also fine and delicate.

On the nose, it features fresh aromas of fruits such as pear and apple, complemented by subtle citrus notes that add a touch of freshness. On the palate, its smooth and balanced texture makes it a pleasant and easy-to-drink wine. Emilio Rojo 2017 is a creamy white wine with an intense golden yellow colour that gives off seductive concentrated aromas of yellow fruits, citrus fruits and white flowers with a subtle mineral background. On the palate it is fruity, flavoursome and meaty. It has a long and persistent finish.
2010 A unique, friendly and concentrated white wine. This wine coats the palate with powerful fruity flavours accompanied by elegant creamy notes from the first sip. It has a silky, unctuous, tasty and meaty mid palate and a very long and persistent finish that leaves powerful feelings. Emilio Rojo's personality and know-how are concentrated in this wine.

Intense golden yellow colour. Clean and bright wine with abundant dense tears.

Seductive and concentrated aromas. Its notes of yellow fruit and citrus (especially oranges) are released along with fragrant notes of white flowers on its elegant and subtle mineral background.
2009 Huge, tasty and meaty wine. Velvety and unctuous, with lots of personality. Powerful, with a nice and long finish.
