About Espectacle

Espectacle is a wonderful red wine produced in the Montsant by the winery Espectacle del Montsant. The winery is unconventional, a project that was formed by a team of world leading wine experts, with the aim to produce one exceptional wine. A wine that is able to convey the sensations of a centenary vineyard. A true 'espectáculo' (spectacle).

The team is made up of:
René Barbier, prestigious producer in the DOQ. Priorat, responsible for great wines such as: Clos Mogador. Isabel Meyer, René's wife, who is in charge of the image, public relations and advertising. Christopher Cannan, British, but with a great experience in producing wine from this region: Clos Figueres. Fernando Zamora, who works as consultant to various wineries in the Priorat. And finally, Marta Conde, graduated in biology with a wide technical knowledge in the Priorat.

Espectacle is a monovarietal of the grape Garnacha Tinta, with the grapes originating from one single estate. This estate 'Espectacle', is a small 2 hectare field with steep slopes and centenary vines.

All the work in the vineyard is performed by hand. The harvest, the grapes are picked from the same vineyard at the optimum moment. The grapes are then carried to the winery in small containers and are cooled down for 24 hours at 4ºC.

After this time, the grapes are destemmed and the best grapes are selected for the next stage.

The fermentation of this wine takes place in very fine French oak vats with the yeast originating from the same vineyard.

There is a series of pump overs to obtain the desired levels of colour and tannin extraction.

Once the fermentation is finished, the wine is macerated for 4-5 weeks before being aged for a period of 14-16 months in the same vats.

Espectacle, as name suggests in Spanish is truly spectacular. 100 year Garnacha vines, a great selection of grapes and a careful winemaking process that attempts to extract the very best from this wonderful terroir. A great wine on an international scale.

2021
Espectacle 2021 is a red wine that stands out for its perfumed profile, appearing even more elegant in this vintage than in previous ones. On the nose, it features aromas of red fruits and flowers, such as violets, nuanced by a citrus note reminiscent of blood orange, which imparts freshness. Its palate is fine and fresh, clean and long. An exquisite wine that, in this 2021 vintage, is more of a spectacle than ever.
 
2020

Espectacle 2020 is a red wine that usually has an exquisite floral expression on the nose that harmoniously accompanies the ripe fruit. This vintage has power and concentration on the palate, but remains in balance with good freshness. There are abundant tannins that, although fine, will become rounder over time. A red wine that reveals an elegant and seductive Grenache vintage after vintage that, like its name, is a spectacle.
2019

Espectacle 2019 is an elegant red wine brimming with vivid aromas of ripe red and black fruits, complemented by floral undertones and hints of exotic spices. On the palate, it presents a kaleidoscope of nuances. This medium-bodied wine glides smoothly, with silky tannins and a finely-tuned, prominent acidity.
2016 Espectacle 2016 is a red wine that expresses the potential of a century-old Garnacha. Its complex aromas include floral notes alongside the fruit. On the palate it is sweet and velvety, with the fruit returning powerfully. An elegant and flavoursome wine with sweet tannins and a long and delicate aftertaste. Quite the spectacle.
2012 On the palate this is flavoursome, elegant and overwhelming. A wonderful high alcohol level, but smooth and ever so easy to drink. Cherries, musk. Aftertaste, is long and persistent.

Attractive and an intense cherry red.

On the nose, quite simply spectacular. Elegant, complex and sophisticated. In the beginning, notes of lilies, orange blossom, violets and roses that little by little open up to a new spectrum of aromas. Olives, fennel, orange peel, smoke, malt and tree bark.
2009 This Espectacle 2009 has a soft attack and a surprisingly fresh mid palate due to its fantastic acidity. It is a very creamy, full bodied wine with a great structure, which shows outstanding soft and ripe tannins, which are perfectly integrated. Its long persistence revives the same feelings noticed in the mouth. It is a wine full of nuances to be discovered quietly and slowly while enjoying it, especially if it is opened in a few years.

Intense and deep cherry colour with violet edges. Very bright wine with uniform, slow-falling tears.

Very complex and concentrated aromas. This wine takes long to open up and express its full potential. It shows intense fruity notes, with aromas of very ripe red and black fruits, along with floral touches of roses and orange blossom. Aromas of coffee, cocoa and toast provided during the ageing are also appreciated along with its strong minerality .
2008 Espectacle 2008 is a wide and voluminous wine at the attack. It is very expressive and elegant, and has an intense, very tasty, sweet and fresh mid palate. Its silky texture caresses the palate. It has ripe, soft, high quality tannins, wich are marked but nice since they are very well integrated. It shows a very, very long finish with a great persistence. A round, deep, expressive, wide and seductive wine. Pure elegance and pure pleasure!

Intense maroon cherry colour with subtle violet reflections. Clean and bright wine with abundant dense tears.

Intense and complex wine with a great elegance at the same time. Its abundant red fruit and ripe red berries aromas are released initially along with intense floral aromas (violets, roses and orange blossom) and with very good toasted and roasted hints. When it opens up, it gains in intensity and the spicy, cocoa and fresh balsamic notes are also felt on an intense and expressive mineral background that rounds up this perfectly harmonious bouquet.
