About Felton Road Bannockburn Riesling

Felton Road Bannockburn Riesling is a biodynamic white wine aged on lees made by the New Zealand winery Felton Road in Central Otago (South Island) with the Riesling variety.

Felton Road is a wine project in the mining town of Bannockburn, in the heart of Otago. It has a new warehouse built over three levels to make use of gravity. The grapes are grown according to biodynamic principles and there is minimal intervention in the winery. This results in complex wines with deep fruity flavours.

Felton Road Bannockburn Riesling comes from vineyards with deep schist and gravel soils. The team uses biodynamic agriculture with plant preparations and cover crops between the rows of vines to help the natural balance of the vine, the terroir and biodiversity. The harvest is carried out manually at the optimum point of ripeness.

In the winery, the Felton Road Bannockburn Riesling grapes are gently pressed and left to rest for 10 days. Then they are fermented with native yeasts for 4-6 weeks until the process is stopped through cooling, which brings out the acidity and leaves the wine with the right level of alcohol (9.5%) and residual sugars (50g/l).

2019 Felton Road Bannockburn Riesling 2019 is an aromatic white wine with a mix of citrus, white and stone fruits combined with exotic floral notes. On the palate it is citric, refreshing and slightly sweet. A wine marked by natural acidity and a delicious mineral expression.
