About Fontanafredda Serralunga D'Alba Barolo Organic

They say hope is the last thing to be lost, and in every bottle of Fontanafredda Serralunga d'Alba Barolo Organic, it feels alive. The tale of Fontanafredda begins in the 19th century, when Victor Emmanuel II of Italy, the last King of Sardinia and the first King of Italy, defied conventions by falling in love with Rosa Vercellana, a young commoner. After entering into a morganatic marriage with her, the king bestowed upon her the estate of Fontanafredda in the hills of Langhe, where their son, Emanuele Alberto Guerrieri, would modernise the family's winemaking tradition, laying the foundations for one of the most iconic wineries in Piedmont.

Today, Fontanafredda continues this legacy with an ecological project that marries history and sustainability, reflecting a passion for the land and a commitment to the future.
The vinification of Barolo adheres to the most rigorous tradition: the nebbiolo grapes are fermented in stainless steel vats at 27–28 °C with frequent pump-overs for 15 days, gently extracting aromas and polyphenols. After fermentation, the wine remains in contact with the skins for a month, enhancing its structure and complexity. It then ages for 24 months in oak barrels and 12 months in concrete vats, achieving a perfect balance between power and finesse.
