About Frontio Puesta en Chus

If grappling with Anglo-Saxon languages is already challenging for a Latin American, imagine what it means to tackle Danish. So, when Thyge Benned Jensen, a former broker from Copenhagen, arrived in the charming village of Fermoselle, in the thrilling yet somewhat forgotten region of Arribes (Castilla y León), he quickly earned the nickname "Chus." The reason? The difficulty of pronouncing Thyge, of course. But Chus, being a lover of challenges, embraced his new name with the same ease with which he ventured into cultivating the eight hectares of vineyard he owns in this unique land, right on the Duero border with Portugal.

His story is that of someone who, in pursuit of a dream, found the perfect setting in Arribes. The prestigious vineyards of Italy and France were beyond his reach, and although the regions of Rioja and Ribera del Duero offered a tempting abundance of Tempranillo, Chus decided to go further and explore a lesser-known corner brimming with potential. Thus, Bodegas Frontio was born, a project that combines freshness, acidity, and authenticity in every bottle.

One of his most intriguing and personal wines is Frontio Puesta en Chus, a wine crafted from the local variety puesta en cruz, a grape not authorised in the denomination and, as it cannot be mentioned, the winemaker plays a word game with his own name to christen the wine. With young vineyards planted on soils of granite, gravel, and quartz, and an environmentally friendly cultivation, the result is a wine that stands out not only for its originality but also for its quality. The manual harvest and complete fermentation in small vats, followed by aging in oak barrels, imbue this singular signature wine with character and personality.

Thus, the story of Chus and his winemaking adventure demonstrates that with determination and passion, any challenge can be turned into an opportunity. For if facing a new language is difficult for many, imagine transforming a forgotten terroir into an oenological gem.
