About G.D. Vajra Barolo Coste di Rose

G.D. Vajra Barolo Coste di Rose is a wood-aged red wine made by G.D. Vajra with the Nebbiolo variety in the DOCG Barolo, in Piedmont (Italy).
 
Founded in 1972 by Aldo and Milena Vaira, G.D. Vajra is a passionate project in the western part of Barolo, in the town of Vergne. They own 40 hectares of land and produce a wide range of wines, focussing on the characteristics of the land and taking great care over every detail. Traditionalists to the modern and modern to the traditionalists, they have always managed to combine a respect for tradition with a vision of the future and produce some of the most elegant wines in Piedmont. 
 
G.D. Vajra Barolo Coste di Rose comes from a 1.5 hectare plot in Coste di Rose, a small MGA (Menzioni Geografiche Aggiuntive) in the Barolo region. This is a steep slope lying 310 metres above sea level with a high percentage of sandy soils with good drainage. The vines are cultivated organically to protect the environment.  
 
The G.D. Vajra Barolo Coste di Rose grapes are selected in the vineyard and in the winery, then vinified in vats with a 40-50 day maceration and malolactic fermentation in stainless steel. Then the wine is placed in heavily used wooden barrels for a minimum of 36 months.
 
Thanks to the unique sandstones the grapes grow in, G.D. Vajra Barolo Coste di Rose is a limited production wine with a distinctive character. A very fine and complex red.

G.D. Vajra Barolo Coste di Rose 2019 unfurls a youthful charm with subtle spices interlacing with a bouquet of floral scents such as roses and lilacs. 2017

G.D. Vajra Barolo Coste di Rose 2017 is a supremely elegant red wine. The bouquet reveals a symphony of wild berry aromas, cassis, and a flourish of blue and lilac florals. On the palate, its pronounced minerality—evocative of crushed limestone—bestows a lingering and enduring finish.
2016

G.D. Vajra Barolo Coste di Rose 2016 is a concentrated red wine with intense aromas of pink flowers, honeysuckle notes and spicy touches of anise and cloves. On the palate it is fresh, delicate and flavoursome. A medium-bodied wine with silky and elegant tannins, lively acidity and a very pleasant salty finish.
