About Gramona Mart Xarel·lo Vermell

Gramona Mart Xarel·lo Vermell is a biodynamic rosé wine made with the native Xarel·lo Vermell variety in the D.O. Penedès (Barcelona) by the Gramona winery.

Gramona is a family winery located in the town of Sant Sadurní (Penedès) where a passion for the vineyard has been passed down from generation to generation since the late nineteenth century. Currently, Jaume and Xavier Gramona Batlle, 5th generation, are carrying the family legacy and running the winery, making cava according to the traditional method as well as the most creative still wines.

Gramona Mart Xarel·lo Vermell is made from one of Penedès’ ancient native varieties that was on the edge of being lost; Xarel·lo Vermell. They grow this grape on a small, Demeter certified two hectare estate with clay-calcareous soil. They cultivate the vines according to ecological and biodynamic principles, focussing on careful observation, the use of natural resources and high levels of biodiversity. They do not use any synthetic chemicals. The harvest is carried out manually on flower day of the biodynamic calendar.

When the Gramona Mart Xarel·lo Vermell grape reaches the winery, it is macerated cold for 48 hours. Fermentation then takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. Once the wine is vinified it is bottled on flower day.

Gramona Mart Xarel·lo Vermell is a rosé wine that has been made according to biodynamic principles both in the field and in the winery, which reveals the most refreshing, expressive and sweet side of a revived ancient variety.

Gramona Mart Xarel·lo Vermell 2023 unveils itself in an enchanting pale pink hue with coppery highlights that beguile the eye. Bringing it closer to the senses, it unfurls an aromatic profile of moderate intensity, interweaving floral scents with a crisp array of Mediterranean herbs such as rosemary and thyme. The fruit character is not to be overshadowed, with nuances of pear, green apple, grapefruit, apricot, and peach adding a subtle sweetness. On the palate, it is light yet encompassing, highlighting fruit flavors complemented by citrus notes and a mineral undertone. 2022 Gramona Mart Xarel·lo Vermell 2022 is a very aromatic rosé wine with grapefruit skin, peach and wild strawberries accompanied by notes of Mediterranean herbs. On the palate is has a pleasant refreshing sensation thanks to its balanced acidity.
2019 Gramona Mart Xarel·lo Vermell 2019 is a rosé wine with fruity aromas of vine peaches, wild strawberries, watermelon and grapefruit skin on the nose, accompanied by notes of Provencal herbs and spicy nuances of pink pepper. On the palate it is broad and unctuous with the fruit returning. A wine with balanced acidity and a subtle bitter touch that adds freshness.
2018 Gramona Mart Xarel·lo Vermell 2018 is a fruity rosé wine with aromas of red fruits, grapefruit and peach, floral notes and a herbaceous background. The palate is sweet, enveloping and refreshing with a spicy pink pepper background.
