About Herència Altés La Musaranya

In Terra Alta (Catalonia), the past does not slumber. Amidst hills draped with vineyards and landscapes that command reverence, remnants of a turbulent history following the civil war can still be found: bullets, grenades, and silences that speak volumes. Yet, this land also tells tales of resilience, of life... and of wine.

This is precisely the spirit of Herència Altés, a winery established in Batea (Catalonia) in 2009, born from the unlikely encounter between a local agricultural expert, Núria Altés, and a young Briton with Spanish roots, Rafael de Haan, who was captivated by the wine and its creator. What began as a spark at a wine fair in London is today one of the most vibrant wineries in Terra Alta.

From the outset, Herència Altés has championed a viticulture that is honest, ecological, and deeply connected to the land. If there is a wine that perfectly embodies this philosophy, it is La Musaranya. A wine made from 100% garnacha blanca, the emblematic variety of this region, crafted with a blend of old vines that impart wisdom and depth, and young vines that imbue vivacity and energy.

The harvest is conducted by hand, with care. The grapes are pressed whole, without destemming, and fermentation occurs spontaneously, thanks to the indigenous yeasts residing in the vineyard and the winery. Finally, the wine rests for 5 months in concrete tanks, just enough to smooth out without erasing its wild character. The wine is not clarified and undergoes only a light filtration before bottling.

Herència Altés La Musaranya is a wine to be enjoyed chilled, savoured leisurely, yet without complications. A wine that respects the land, honours the past, and dares to look to the future with joy. Like that little shrew that, without making a noise, always finds its way.

On the nose, this wine is truly enchanting, expressive and enveloping, with aromas of green apple and juicy pear, accompanied by subtle floral notes reminiscent of jasmine. Its palate is lively and cheerful, revealing an aromatic intensity where clean and fresh fruit flavours prevail. The finish is delightfully captivating, with a subtle spicy touch adding complexity. This wine is recommended as it combines freshness and aromatic complexity, offering a delicious and memorable experience to those who indulge.
