About Domaine de Chevalier L'Esprit de Chevalier

The term "terroir de Graves" refers to a specific wine region in the Bordeaux region of southwestern France. It is characterised by its particular soil, which is mainly composed of gravel (hence the name "Graves", which means "gravel" in French). This soil originated during the Age of Mammals, when the Garonne River transported sediments and left gravel deposits in the region. Gravel has excellent drainage properties, which benefits vine cultivation by preventing excessive water retention in the roots. In addition, it also has unique heat retention capacity. During the day, it absorbs the sun's heat and slowly releases it at night, creating a microclimate that contributes to earlier ripening of the grapes, which can influence the style and quality of the wines produced in the region. Domaine de Chevalier is one of the inescapable references of this Grave region, a beautiful property in Pessac-Léognan run by the Bernard family that has managed to capture the spirit of the terroir and position itself among the best in Bordeaux.

Among its great wines, L'Esprit de Chevalier is a blend of cabernet sauvignon and merlot grown on 25 hectares of a Grand Cru Classé with black sandy soils and a gravelly clay subsoil. Grown from the youngest vines on the estate, the grapes are cultivated with respect for the environment using biodynamic practices. In the cellar, after a meticulous selection and destemming, fermentation begins with native yeasts at controlled temperatures. The wine is then aged for 18 months in French oak barrels.

Delicate and powerful at the same time, L'Esprit de Chevalier is the second wine from Domaine de Chevalier. A balanced coupage with its own character that perfectly reflects the spirit of this beautiful property in Léognan (Graves).
