About Laus Blanco Chardonnay-Garnacha

Laus signifies 'praise, commendation, consideration'. This Latin-derived term has been chosen to name these wineries located to the south of the D.O. Somontano, in Barbastro, Huesca (in the northeast of Spain).

Here, at the foothills of the Pyrenees, the perfect conditions have historically prevailed: suitable altitude (between 350 and 400 metres), a climate of contrasts (dry with minimal rainfall), and exceptional soils (chalky and stony, with gypsum). Thanks to these conditions, great wines are produced, such as Laus Blanco Chardonnay-Garnacha.

Laus Blanco Chardonnay-Garnacha is a wine crafted from grapes cultivated on the 85 hectares of the Torre Fiero estate. This plot, situated 1.5 km from the winery, was planted between 2000 and 2007. Specifically, chardonnay is the queen of the denomination, introduced to the area by bodega Lalanne, who brought it directly from Bordeaux as a solution to the phylloxera outbreak. Once the grapes reach their optimal ripeness, the harvest takes place at night. This timing allows for the collection and transportation of the grapes at low temperatures, ensuring their good condition.

In this manner, the grapes arrive at the winery, a new building comprising three sections, fully integrated into the natural surroundings. Here, in the first room, the grape bunches for Laus Blanco Chardonnay-Garnacha are received and undergo cold maceration. This process, lasting several hours, primarily aims to extract aromas and provide body and structure to the must. Following this extraction, Laus Blanco Chardonnay-Garnacha is allowed to settle, becoming clear and ready to ferment in isothermal tanks at a controlled temperature.

Finally, Laus Blanco Chardonnay-Garnacha proceeds directly to the third room, where it is bottled. Undoubtedly, the finest tribute one could offer.

Laus White Chardonnay 2021 is a very tasty and pleasant white wine, easy to drink. Lemon yellow in colour, with steely green touches, on the nose it has complex and elegant tropical aromas (citrus, lemon, pear, pineapple, banana). The palate is flavoursome, powerful and fresh, with a very long aftertaste.
