About Laventura Malvasia

Laventura Malvasia is a cement-aged white wine made with the Malvasía variety by Laventura Wines in the D.O.Ca.Rioja, in La Rioja (Spain). 
 
Laventura Wines is run by Bryan MacRobert, a young South African winemaker who, after working on different projects in Spain and South Africa, set up his own winery in La Rioja having been drawn in by the area’s very diverse wines. With a total of 1.5 hectares of his own vineyards, he creates limited production wines that perfectly reflect the terroir, the variety and the vintage. 
 
Laventura Malvasia comes from unusual vineyards lying about 600 metres above sea level at the foot of the Sierra Cantabria. These are 50-year-old vines planted in stony soils with good drainage. They are cultivated using respectful agriculture and organic treatments, and the harvest is carried out manually when the grapes reach optimum ripeness. 
 
In the winery, the Laventura Malvasia grapes are destemmed and gently pressed. The resulting must ferments spontaneously with native yeasts and the skins for three weeks. Finally the wine ages in concrete vats for 12 months.
 
The result of an experiment by MacRobert, Laventura Malvasia is a surprising limited production wine made through skin-contact maceration that is fresh, long-lasting and very enveloping.
 
2023 Laventura Malvasia 2023 is a white wine that captivates from the very first encounter. It unveils an enchanting bouquet with aromas of pollen, beeswax, and a hint of fresh herbs that evoke natural landscapes. This wine delicately expresses its maturity, with a 12% alcohol content that complements a balanced acidity. Laventura Malvasia 2019 is an aromatic white wine with honeysuckle floral fragrances, stone fruit and citrus notes and spicy touches. On the palate it is oily, fresh and very enveloping. A wine full of life with good acidity, a smooth mid-palate and a long finish.
