About Mouton Rothschild Le Petit Mouton

Le Petit Mouton is the second label of the esteemed Château Mouton Rothschild. This red wine is crafted at this premier Grand Cru Classé located in the northwest of Bordeaux, within the A.O.C. Pauillac.

Discussing Château Mouton Rothschild is to speak of one of the titans of the wine industry (established in 1853 by Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild), a must-try for all connoisseurs. However, delving into its two centuries of history also means acknowledging it as one of the most expensive wines in the world. A luxury that is beyond the reach of many.

As expected, this heritage, lineage, and expertise come with a price tag. Le Petit Mouton originates from a terrain of gravelly hills and pebbles, situated 30 meters above sea level, nestled between the Gironde estuary and the Atlantic Ocean (characterized by a humid climate and temperate temperatures), where grapes of exceptional quality are cultivated. From the young vines of the First Growth vineyard—where they are handpicked and carefully placed in open baskets—these fruits are transported to the fermentation room. There, they are meticulously sorted and gently crushed, subsequently entering the oak (sourced from the finest French forests) and stainless steel vats by gravity. Le Petit Mouton is fermented separately, according to the varietal composition of each plot. After malolactic fermentation, it matures in French oak barrels.

Although more affordable than its siblings, Le Petit Mouton remains a significant investment. But at the end of the day, as Oscar Wilde would say: "I have the simplest tastes. I am always satisfied with the best." Why settle for mediocrity when one can savor a glass of Le Petit Mouton?

On the palate, it is vibrant and articulate, featuring seamlessly integrated and refined tannins. It is harmonious and well-proportioned, with pure currant notes. The finish is extensive and enduring.
