About Château Smith Haut Lafitte Le Petit Haut Lafitte Blanc

Bernard Ginestet, mayor of the town of Margaux (Gironde) until 1995 and a passionate author of wine books, wrote that Château Smith Haut Lafitte was “the most Graves of Graves” because of the large amount of gravel soils on the estate. A unique feature that makes this Graves cru classé one of the most impressive.

Although the history of the Château dates back to 1365, it is now run by Florence & Daniel Cathiard. Great professional skiers, they left the competitive world and set up a supermarket empire and then they were drawn in by their passion for wine. They acquired Château Smith Haut Lafitte in 1990 and converted the entire estate in search of excellence.

Château Smith Haut Lafitte Le Petit Haut Lafitte Blanc is one of their world renowned wines. The second wine of the house in white, made from the Sauvignon Blanc and Semillón varieties. The vines are cultivated using environmentally friendly agriculture, they grow in living soils, are treated with organic compounds and then harvested manually. The winery also combines traditional processes with the most modern winemaking techniques. A balanced combination that brings out the maximum expression of unique terroirs.  The grapes are pressed in an oxygen-free environment using inert gas in order to retain the aromatic power of the fruit. Once the must has been produced, fermentation begins at a low temperature in French oak barrels (50% new oak) and finally it spends 12 months on the lees. And then comes the best part, pouring yourself a glass.
