About Château Smith Haut Lafitte Le Petit Haut Lafitte

Château Smith Haut Lafitte Le Petit Haut Lafitte is a wood-aged red wine made by Château Smith Haut Lafitte with the Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon varieties in the AOC Pessac-Léognan, in Bordeaux (France). 
 
An original 14th century estate on a gravel plateau called Lafitte, Château Smith Haut Lafitte was renamed in 1720 when it was acquired by Scotsman Georges Smith, who built the estate’s manor house. In 1990, Florence and Daniel Cathiard fell in love with the estate and, after embarking on a renovation project that included a new winery, they began producing highly prized wines that faithfully uphold the tradition of excellence.
 
Convinced that great wine is the result of a balance between the vine and its terroir, Château Smith Haut Lafitte Le Petit Haut Lafitte is made from a terroir that has been studied in great detail to adapt cultivation accordingly. This involves using Oenoview satellites that focus on each vine row and allow a very close monitoring of ripening. The vines are cultivated using ecological agriculture and the harvest is carried out manually when the grapes reach optimum ripeness. 
 
In the winery, the Château Smith Haut Lafitte Le Petit Haut Lafitte grapes are firstly sorted on the selection table and then they undergo alcoholic fermentation. Finally, the wine ages for 12 months in 225-litre French oak barrels, 20% of which are new. 
 
Château Smith Haut Lafitte Le Petit Haut Lafitte is the second alternative wine from Château Smith Haut Lafitte. A red wine that stands out for having a higher proportion of Cabernet grapes and because it is becoming more and more popular.
 
2016

Le Petit Haut Lafitte 2016 is a concentrated red wine with a well-defined bouquet of black fruit, pressed flowers and a touch of undergrowth. On the palate it is medium-bodied, powerful and energetic. This is a wine with firm and crisp tannins with an impressive structure and length. The finish is long with touches of granite.
