About Luca Chardonnay G-Lot
Physician, biologist, writer and oenologist. No one knows more about the vineyards in the Uco Valley in Mendoza (Argentina) than Laura Catena. The daughter of Nicolás Catena Zapata, after gaining experience as research director at the prestigious family winery, she started her own project in 1999 under the name of Bodega Luca (named after Laura Catena’s first-born son) with the aim of getting the best results from the small old family vineyards.
Based on three premises (small quantities, artisan quality and authenticity of the terroir), she produces high quality wines where the style of the Old World blends perfectly with the New World. An example of this great work, Luca Chardonnay G-Lot is a single-variety Chardonnay that comes from the highest area of the Uco Valley, at about 1450 metres above sea level. A very special terroir with rocky soils, high sun exposure, fresh air and low yields where 35 year old vines are cultivated following organic principles. In the winery, fermentation is carried out with native yeasts, followed by 12 months of aging in French oak barrels, 30% new and 70% second use.
The result of great viticultural knowledge and an enormous passion for this expert’s family vineyards, Luca Chardonnay G-Lot is an elegant white wine with intense aromas and flavours and a delicious minerality. A New World Chardonnay with all the style of the Old World.
2020 | Luca Chardonnay G-Lot 2020 is a creamy white wine with delicious aromas of lemon and white fruits accompanied by spicy notes of nutmeg, anise and clove. On the palate it is unctuous, enveloping and well structured. A wine with a grainy texture, a lively freshness and a persistent mineral aftertaste. |
