About Luca Pinot Noir G-Lot
"Vino Argentino: An Insiders Guide to the Wines and Wine Country of Argentina", penned by the esteemed Argentine oenologist Laura Catena, offers connoisseurs and industry professionals alike an exclusive insight into Argentine wines, detailing their varietals, distinctive features, and historical development. A treasure trove of information, Laura Catena, hailing from the venerated Catena family, proprietors of the illustrious Catena Zapata winery, stands as a trailblazer heralding a new era of Argentine wines characterized by limited production, minimal intervention, and a profound expression of terroir. Under the Luca label, named after her firstborn son, she embarked on her own venture in 1999, establishing a presence in the Valle de Uco within Mendoza, independent of her family's winemaking legacy.
Focusing on high-elevation vineyards with low yields, she introduces Luca Pinot Noir G-Lot, a single-varietal pinot noir nestled nearly 1,500 meters above sea level at the foothills of the Andes. It is distinguished by its stony, calcareous soils, significant slopes, and exposure to cool breezes and abundant sunlight. Vines over 30 years old are organically cultivated, yielding naturally limited quantities. Following a manual harvest, vinification and maturation are conducted in oak barrels for 10 months, with 20% new oak and 80% second and third fill.
In a relentless pursuit of excellence, Luca Pinot Noir G-Lot is an elegant, concentrated, and mineral-driven wine that epitomizes a new wave of Argentine wines influenced by Bordeaux's style, with the author and oenologist Laura Catena at the forefront of this pioneering movement.
2020 | Luca Pinot Noir G-Lot 2020 is a richly textured red wine brimming with the opulent scents of wild strawberries, a medley of spices, and hints of leather. The palate is indulgent, well-balanced, and caressing. This medium-bodied wine features moderate tannins, seamlessly integrated acidity, and a protracted, mineral-infused finish. |
