About Marques de Riscal 150 Aniversario

Marqués de Riscal 150 Aniversario is a red wine produced by the winery Marqués de Riscal, in Elciego (Álava), D.O.Ca. Rioja.

The winery Marqués de Riscal has over 150 years of history. It is a reference of the Spanish wine scene, and Marqués de Riscal is considered as one of the first modern Rioja companies that began to produce quality wines.

Currently, Marqués del Riscal has 1,500 hectares of vineyards, 600 of which are owned. Here, they cultivate the varieties tempranillo, graciano, mazuelo and cabernet sauvignon.

The success of Marqués de Riscal is recognised worldwide, since the winery exports 60% of its total production to more than 100 countries. Marqués de Riscal 150 Aniversario is a red wine made with Tempranillo and 12% of other varieties from a vineyard of more than 80 years old located in the Rioja Alavesa.

After the harvest, the grapes already in the winery go through a selection table where the best berries are chosen. These continue to the alcoholic fermentation at a controlled temperature, which will not exceed 26°C, and with a maceration of 14 days. This wine is aged in French oak barrels for 32 months. Before it is launched on the market, it is left to stand in the bottle for a minimum of 3 years.

2016

Marqués de Riscal 150 Aniversario 2016 is a well-aged red wine. Olfactorily, it is intricate, exuding balsamic scents, black pepper, and cinnamon. On the palate, it is unctuous, robustly constructed, replete with abundant tannins, well-rounded, culminating in an extensive and silky finish.
2010

Marqués de Riscal 150 Aniversario 2010 is a mature, structured and complex wine. On the nose,the roasted aromas stand out, with black pepper and cinnamon, above the balsamic notes and notes of red fruit. In the mouth, it is unctuous, with volume and elegance, and with a long and silky finish.
2004 Broad and enticing attack. Good structure and very balanced. Silky and intense on the palate with very expressive fruity giving way to elegant woody flavours. Good acidity, very well-integrated and ripe, enjoyable tannins. Very long finish with great persistence. Delicious smoky and fruity notes at retro-olfaction. An excellent classic.

Ruby red colour with a terracotta rim. Clean and bright. Elegant, dense, slow-falling tears on the glass.

This new vintage shows intense and complex aromas. Some fine toasted and roasted notes mix with a clean, spicy set, with subtle notes of leather and tobacco giving way to fleshy, ripe red fruit enticing the palate but taking a back seat. Subtle balsamic notes in the background.
2001 A great classic with a modern touch which makes this excellent wine even more enjoyable. Wide and embracing attack. A well balanced wine with a great structure, and a long, silky and intense mid palate with more expressive notes of fruit which give way to elegant wooden aromas. Very good acidity and well integrated tannins. Very long and persistent finish. A red wine to be enjoyed slowly.

Deep cherry colour with brick red edges. Bright wine with a high robe. Elegant and dense slow-falling tears.

Intense, elegant and complex aromas. Its noble toasted and roasted notes are mixed with a clean set of spices, with subtle notes of leather and tobacco, which give way to fleshy notes of ripe red fruit that wrap the whole set but stay in the background. Subtle balsamic background.
