About Martínez Lacuesta Crianza Cuvée 2020

There are names etched into the annals of a region's history, not merely for their deeds, but for how they transformed the lives of its people. Félix Martínez Lacuesta (Haro, 1873-1922) is undoubtedly one such figure. A winemaker, lawyer, politician, and publicist, his legacy extends far beyond his renowned winery. He was the inaugural president of the Asociación Nacional de Viticultores e Industrias del Vino, the Sindicato de Vinos de La Rioja, and one of the driving forces behind the Consejo Regulador de la D.O. Rioja, which was formalised in 1926, partly due to his tireless efforts advocating for winemakers.

His story began on Calle de la Vega, in Haro, in 1895, selling wines and soft drinks alongside his brothers. What started as a small family venture has evolved into one of the oldest wineries in the city, still under the stewardship of the Martínez Lacuesta family more than a century later.

Today, his spirit endures in wines like Martínez Lacuesta Crianza Cuvée. Sourced from vineyards in Haro on clay-limestone soils, this crianza is the result of a meticulous and selective manual harvest. After destemming and a gentle crushing, fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks. The true magic unfolds during the ageing process, with 18 months in American oak barrels and three rackings following traditional methods, culminating in a well-rounded, elegant wine steeped in history.

Félix Martínez Lacuesta left a legacy that still epitomises the best of Haro, as evidenced in Martínez Lacuesta Crianza Cuvée. A toast to a man who did so much for Rioja.
