About Mas Coutelou Matubu

There is nothing written about cowards. And nowadays, he is a true luminary in the wine world. His achievement: becoming one of the first vintners to obtain organic certification for his vineyards in 1987.
 
Once the path is known, it is quite easy to follow. However, the real challenge lies in forging a new path in previously uncharted territory. Nonetheless, Jeff Coutelou has always been committed to environmentally friendly farming, eschewing chemical products on his 13 ha estate in Pumisson, a village in the southeast of France (in the Languedoc region). From there, he crafts wines that are utterly honest and straightforward, without any pretense or embellishment, such as Mas Coutelou Matubu.
 
Mas Coutelou Matubu is a red wine made from Carignan, Syrah, and Grenache grapes grown on diverse soils influenced by the Mediterranean climate (with moist winds from the south and cool temperatures from the northern mountains). All work is carried out manually, without the use of chemical products.
 
This expertise continues in the cellar, where each plot is processed separately. In the case of Mas Coutelou Matubu, the clusters of Carignan and Grenache ferment whole, whereas the Syrah is pressed before being transferred to the tanks. Eventually, the blend undergoes a brief maturation, lasting only a few months, in concrete and fiberglass tanks. It is a luxurious wine that is delightfully easy to drink.

Mas Coutelou Matubu 2020 is a juicy, ruby-colored red wine. The nose is fruity, with aromas of black and red berries, which combine with flowers, the body, earth and hints of tobacco. The palate is complex and elegant, tannic, with a sharp acidity. Deep and fruity (sweet raspberries, redcurrants, blackberries, red cherry, citrus), with spiced hints. Long and persistent finish.
