About Massaluca Blanco 2023

Amidst vineyards and olive groves, the southern mouth of an ancient railway tunnel stands silently, which in the 19th century linked Pobla de Massaluca and Fayón, in Terra Alta (Catalonia). This point of connection, a witness to stories and journeys, inspired the name of a project that aims to unite tradition and territory: Massaluca.

Massaluca is the latest venture by the Roqueta family in the DO Terra Alta, a project initiated in 2019 in Pobla de Massaluca, approximately 400 metres above sea level, with the clear mission of crafting wines that embody the authentic character of this land.

Among its initial offerings is Massaluca Blanco, a blend predominantly of garnacha blanca with a hint of macabeu. This young wine is crafted using traditional methods. That is to say, vinification takes place in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures, where it rests for several months before bottling. The result is a fresh and vibrant white, reflecting the minerality and light of Terra Alta, a region defined by its history and unique landscape.

Massaluca Blanco serves as a reminder that, much like that ancient tunnel, the winery connects past and present, tradition and territory, in a wine that breathes the pure essence of Terra Alta.

Massaluca Blanco 2024 emerges as a refreshing gem for white wine enthusiasts. On the nose, it unveils a spectrum of fruity aromas, prominently featuring lime and grapefruit, which meld with delicate floral nuances and a subtle hint of mint. At the first sip, its lightness and freshness are immediately apparent, illuminated by a vibrant acidity that imparts a marvellous balance. Its characteristic minerality subtly reveals itself in a lingering finish. This wine excels in its ability to capture the essence of the terroir with a harmonious blend of fruit and herbal notes, ideal for those seeking a youthful and invigorating option.
