About Miguel Barroso Louro Primeiro Nome Branco

The Quinta do Mouro winery and its owner Miguel Louro are known for speaking their mind. A controversial dentist who, after winning a poker bet on a piece of land in the Alentejo wine region, decided to focus on the country life and make his own wines. A very bold move that, thanks to his commitment and passion, was a success. He passed his skills onto his children, who have followed in his footsteps and each set up their own winery. The youngest, Miguel Barroso Louro, not only set up his own project but also enjoys experimenting in wine regions as different from Portugal as Mosel (Germany). Since 2010, he has run his own winery carrying his own name, and produces wines with the aim of promoting the most authentic face of the Estremoz sub-region using native varieties and upholding local traditions.

One example of his expertise is Miguel Barroso Louro Primeiro Nome Branco, a wine that perfectly expresses a specific place. Made from vines of the native Arinto, Rabigato, Albariño, Verdelho and Roupeiro varieties, the vines are respectfully cultivated and harvested by hand at the optimum point of ripeness. Then in the winery, the grapes cold-macerate with skins for 24 hours and ferment with native yeasts in French oak barrels with 9 months of aging on fine lees.

The result is most surprising. Miguel Barroso Louro Primeiro Nome Branco is a most attractive white wine that, while modern, evokes all the tradition of the DOC Alentejo.

2019

Miguel Barroso Louro Primeiro Nome Branco 2019 is a creamy white wine with attractive citrus aromas, notes of wild flowers and hints of smoke. On the palate it is light, fresh and attractive. A wine with a crisp acidity that lingers through to the finish.
